This ended up being my favorite picture of the famous "lone tree" at Lake Wanaka, New Zealand - and it was actually the first frame I snapped. It was still very dark when we got there an hour before sunrise. I took a quick test-shot at ISO 1600 with a 20-second exposure. That was long enough to register the faint but beautiful deep pre-dawn colors in the sky. As a bonus, one of the other photographers already there was "light-painting" the tree with their flashlight. Boom! Done! That was easy!
